Patients often read cues from the nurse’s non-verbal behaviour, which can indicate interest or disinterest. Attentiveness and attention to the patient can be achieved through SOLER: S – sit squarely, O – Open posture, L – learn towards the patient, E – eye contact, R – relax (Egan 2002).
